How to Check if a website for online payment is safe or not

Now you can find out whether a website can be trusted or is a scam website

Facebook Now Allows Friends To Promote Posts, But Privacy Concerns Arise

On average, only 16 percent of your friends see your Facebook posts. However, with promoted posts, one of Facebook’s newest features, more of your friends will be likely to see your posts than ever before, as it will allow users to pay to promote their friends’ posts.

Facebook hopes that quality content that’s supported by you and your friends will be featured at the top of your news feed as a result of this new feature. Some users have already received the new feature, but the gradual roll out will continue among Facebook users with fewer than 5,000 total friends and subscribers.

Facebook’s new service could be described as a paid version of Reddit, a free website for which users vote other users’ submissions “up” or “down” based on whether they liked them or not. The challenge for Facebook is that with free -- and immensely popular -- alternatives like Reddit, many users may not want to pay to promote their friends’ posts.

Facebook began testing the concept of users promoting their own posts last May, and it officially rolled out the feature to the public in October. Promoted posts usually cost about $7 or so -- and the price varies based on location and how many people the post can potentially reach. However,  the feature allows users to promote others' promoted posts, which will help users reach a wider audience than they would without the service -- and potentially help Facebook’s bottom line as well.

However, the new promoted posts service could increase the potential for cyber bullying.

This potential problem could occur when someone posts, say, a photo on Facebook, and then that user’s friend decides to promote that photo. The problem is that the friend doesn't need the original user’s explicit permission to promote the photo.

This could be a problem, for example, if one of your friends from college decides to promote an old embarrassing photo of you -- you won’t be able to prevent the picture from getting to the top of the News Feed for a large percentage of your friends.

This could lead to public shaming, which is considered a form of cyber bullying.

It’s a problem that Facebook has addressed in the past. The site has been proactively teaching users about cyber bullying and it partnered with several anti-bullying organizations after a user named Amanda Todd committed suicide after being bullied on Facebook, which reignited the charge that Facebook facilitates cyber-bullying happened more than other social networks.

However, promoted posts might offer another way for cyber bullies to pick on their victims: By paying to promote embarrassing or personal content to show up at the top of the News Feed, Facebook could encourage users to embarrass other users for a small fee.

In addition, there’s no way to determine who promoted a post, so, as TechCrunch notes, a friend promoting an article written by you could be perceived as a shameless plug by you to get more of your friends to check out your article -- even if you had nothing to with the promoted post.

However, Facebook is quick to point out that there are a lot of benefits to the service. A Facebook spokesperson released a statement to AllFacebook on Friday, describing the feature thusly:

“If your friend is running a marathon for charity and has posted that information publicly, you can help that friend by promoting their post to all of your friends,” the post said. “Or if your friend is renting their apartment out and she tells her friends on Facebook, you can share the post with the people you and your friend have in common so that it shows up higher in news feed and more people notice it.”

Facebook will likely monitor this new feature to see how it’s used. It has the potential to be make Facebook into a more Reddit-like site, where popular posts dominate the front page on a merit basis -- but it could be used maliciously to embarrass or play pranks on friends -- only time will tell.

Facebook is planning to emphasize its mobile platform in 2013, and it will be interesting to see if the Promoted Posts feature will be included in its mobile plans. In the company’s most recent earnings report, Facebook said mobile ad revenue accounts for 23 percent of its total ad revenue.

International Business Times contacted Facebook to ask if any safeguards will be put in place to prevent cyberbullying through the new service-- and how the site plans to address potential complaints about it -- but it didn’t get back to us by the time this article was published.

Facebook lets users promote friends' posts

The move expands upon the personal promoted posts feature launched last October.

Facebook has expanded its promoted posts program, allowing users to pay to highlight posts made by friends. The move, if successful, could help boost fees Facebook collects from the recently introduced service.

The new feature lets users pay to push posts made by friends to the top of the news feed of people with whom the post was originally shared. Previously, users could only promote their own posts, typically for $7 a pop in the U.S.

Under the changes, people can now promote any friend's post, such as status updates, photos or videos. Facebook says the new function respects privacy because the post is only promoted to the same users that would have originally been able to see it.

"It simply helps to ensure that important posts are noticed by more people," said Gwendolyn Belomy, a spokeswoman for Facebook. It began gradually rolling out globally starting Thursday to people with fewer than 5,000 friends or subscribers.

The social network launched the promoted posts program in October 2012. Fees the social network has collected from the tool thus far "have not been material," Facebook said in its annual report filed Feb. 1 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Charity donations, fundraising and publicizing events are just some uses of the new functionality that Facebook is highlighting.

"If your friend is running a marathon for charity and has posted that information publicly, you can help that friend by promoting their post to all of your friends," the company said.

The tool can also make the apartment hunting process easier, the social network said. If a friend is renting out her apartment, for instance, and tells her friends on Facebook, someone else can share that post with both users' mutual friends so that it shows up higher in the news feed.

Other uses may include promoting a friend's announcement about a move or a new job, the company said.

The service will cost the same as promoting your own posts, which will vary depending on the user's geographic location and the size of the person's network.

Pirate Bay files police report alleging piracy by pro-copyright organization

Parody site imitates appearance of Pirate Bay site while providing links to two directories of legal download sites.

The Pirate Bay reported an anti-piracy organization to Finnish police on Monday for allegedly breaching its copyright.

The Copyright Information and Anti-Piracy Center (CIAPC) recently launched a website that imitates the appearance of The Pirate Bay (, replacing the pirate ship logo with one featuring a sinking ship, and substituting the usual torrent search links with links to two directories of legal download services.

Although The Pirate Bay explicitly gives permission for organizations to use the site's content for "obvious well meaning usage, i.e. distributing works of cultural benefit for the end user," it said it will proceed with a lawsuit against CIAPC.

"CIAPC have copied files from which The Pirate Bay is built, to produce a fraudulent parody site," The Pirate Bay said, adding that in many countries this could constitute fair use for the purposes of parody -- but not under Finnish law.

"While The Pirate Bay may have a positive view on copying, it will not stand by and watch copyright enforcing organizations disrespect copyright," says a Pirate Bay statement.

The Pirate Bay was launched in 2003 and is run by dozens of individuals around the world. After a Swedish court ruling in 2009 gave jail terms for the founders of the site, the current organizers prefer to remain anonymous.

CIAPC aims to "prevent the production, distribution and import of unauthorized copies and recordings and put a stop to other acts that infringe copyright legislation". And managing director Antti Kotilainen told local media that a legal challenge would be a good thing if it forced The Pirate Bay's owners to identify themselves.

The Pirate Bay added that any money it might be awarded by the courts would go towards a new computer for a nine-year-old Finnish girl whose Winnie the Pooh laptop was confiscated following a CIAPC-instigated police raid.

Google has flipped the switch on its free turn-by-turn voice navigation service and traffic data in India. Any Android user can now use Google Maps Navigation to select best possible route to their destination, however the live traffic data is also available on desktop maps and mobile maps from the company.

Google Now uses card format to show this information and one of the several cards is traffic card, which gives you traffic conditions and alternate routes before you leave for work or home. Google Now also puts traffic to your next likely destination at your fingertips. But until now, the traffic cards weren't of much use in India as there was no traffic data, which has now changed.

Live traffic updates within maps for selected cities as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune but, surprisingly, not Kolkata. Red is the color indicating heavy traffic, while green indicates free flow, and yellow is somewhere in between.

Started in first week of September 2012, if you have a Jelly Bean running smartphone with Google Now, you will be able to see estimated time to your destination (home, office or any other location you search on Google) with traffic condition details. So, if you see that a particular road is seeing high-traffic, you can take an alternate route to your office and reach on time.

Google + Launches Business pages.

In today's world everyone wants to advertise their website or their business. We all are using Facebook pages and groups since a long time for this purpose. Google+ just launched Google+ pages competing Facebook pages.
Now create your own Google+ business page and promote yourself. It's simple and awesome. Some people just say that Google+ can not beat Facebook, but i say why not? Could you please answer just simple two question "Are you able to access Facebook in your Office? Are you able to access Google+ in Office". The answer to first question is NO, But the second question's answer will be Yes. According to a survey 95 % corporate companies and offices blocks Facebook, but on the other hand 95 % companies have allowed Google+ in their office.
So why shouldn't you promote your business and interest with Google+. According to me it will give you a big platform to present yourself and your brand. One more interesting fact which i consider is that Google owns Google+ so Google+ pages will be more visible on search results.

Password hack: Yahoo fixes security glitch

Password hack: Yahoo fixes security glitch

Yahoo has announced that it has fixed a glitch in its security software that allowed hackers access to 450,000 email addresses and passwords.
In a statement on the company blog, a Yahoo spokesman said the firm has deployed additional security measures for its affected users.
"Yahoo recently confirmed that an older file containing approximately 450,000 email addresses and passwords was compromised," the spokesman wrote.
"We have taken swift action and have now fixed this vulnerability, deployed additional security measures for affected Yahoo users, enhanced our underlying security controls and are in the process of notifying affected users.
In addition, we will continue to take significant measures to protect our users and their data," he added.
According to The Telegraph, hackers belonging to a group called D33Ds Company posted the Yahoo account information on a public website in what they described as 'a wake-up call' last week.
"We hope that the parties responsible for managing the security of this sub-domain will take this as a wake-up call, and not as a threat," the hackers said in a message posted along with the leaked data.
"There have been many security holes exploited in web servers belonging to Yahoo. that have caused far greater damage than our disclosure. Please do not take them lightly. The sub-domain and vulnerable parameters have not been posted to avoid further damage," they added.
